Fastfax

Does FastFax support Xerox and HP multifunction printers (MFPs)?

Yes, Xerox and HP MFP integration is supported by FastFax. For more information, contact Quadrant Software technical support: http://www.quadrantsoftware.com/services-support/customer-care-center/

Can we prevent someone from signing onto our iSeries using the FFXSYS profile and not stop the FastFax processor from connecting and processing fax jobs?

Yes. Change the FFXSYS profile and set the Initial Menu to be *SIGNOFF. This will prevent users from utilizing this profile to get onto your iSeries and will not affect the FastFax processor.

I need to install some new PC fax clients. How do I do this?

Installing PC fax clients doesn’t require any software CD. Use Windows Explorer on that PC to navigate to the Quadrant/FastFax/Setup32 folder on the File Server (where the FastFax software was installed). Double click on Setup.Exe. This process takes about 5 minutes and the PC will need to re-boot. If you are running this on a Windows 7 we suggest you run this as Admin. Also on XP machines you must have local administrator privileges.

How do I change my user profile to allow another user to send faxes using my resources?

You can modify any FastFax profile to allow that profile user to send documents for specific user(s) or all users. From a command line enter FFXMAIN and [Enter], take Option #2 to work with FastFax profiles. Take Option #2 to (Change) the profile and then option #2 for General Defaults.
This gives other individuals the authority to access the user profile’s resources such as Sending faxes, working with Outbound or Inbound faxes and working with Phonebooks, Notebooks and Attachment Books. This is mainly used when someone will be on vacation and needs another user to take care of their fax jobs for a limited time. If your case is that you need this ability all the time, then change your profile to have that authority.

Can I send two copies of a purchase order to the same vendor using FastFax API jobs?

Yes. Using API, you can send a fax to up to 999 recipients or up to 999 copies to the same recipient. To do this, add the recipient modifier commands *DSF, *FI and *FN for fax messages, *DSE, *FI and *EM for email messages. You can also add any combination of these commands to send both fax and email messages.

What is the maximum number of recipients that can be associated with one spool file?

A maximum of 999 recipients can be associated with any fax job. If the entire spool file is the fax, then 999 recipients can be specified. If you’re using FastFax API jobs and the spool file has multiple fax jobs in it, then each fax job within that spool file has a limit of 999 recipients.
If you need to send a document to more than 999 recipients, then you need to send the same spool file multiple times. I would recommend using the FastFax Phonebooks and take advantage of the Broadcast List feature. This feature allows you to create one phonebook entry that defines up to 999 recipients. You can create multiple Broadcast Lists (of up to 999 recipients) to easily complete such a job.

I have been using FastFax API and recently started faxing internationally. All my international faxes are in error status with invalid international code.

FastFax uses outbound routing codes to dial a specific number (i.e. local, long distance, or international). When you installed FastFax, you entered the local exchanges for your area code into the FastFax outbound routing table. This information tells FastFax to dial locally if the exchange is in the table, otherwise it dials long distance.

To send international faxes, you have 3 choices.
1.) Use the API command *IN for changing the international code from default (USA) to “INT” and enter the country code and number.
2.) Use the API command *IN, put in the specific country code and just give us the number minus the country code.
3.) Use the API command *IN with a value of “OTH” and give us everything, including the 011. The “OTH” value bypasses checking the outbound routing codes and dials the number just as you gave it to us.

Which API command should I use to load the subject line of an email message?

Use the reference/description command “*RF”. This command has a parameter length of 25 positions.

I’m using FastFax API and have the eDocMail / Email Gateway. I want to send a message along with the e-mail so that it appears in the body of the e-mail. How can I accomplish this?

When sending emails, FastFax won’t send the cover sheet in the email attachment, unless the cover sheet has notes on it. If your cover sheet has notes on it, then these notes will show up as the body of the email. In your API jobs, add the command *CN for cover notes. We allow 30 lines, 80 columns. Keep repeating the *CN command to enter all your notes.

How can I send PC documents using FastFax API?

Use the FastFax API command, ‘*AP’, to attach PC Document. This command works three different ways and is dependent on the parameter structure. We can get a file from a folder in QDLS, IFS, or a Network file server (NT or Novell).
From QDLS:………. *APqdlspath/filename.ext
From IFS:…………. *AP/ifspath/filename.ext
From Network:…… *AP\fileserverfolderfilename.ext

Is it possible to automate faxing for PC documents?

If you purchased Development Tools, there is a module called LAN/API. Unlike API on the iSeries where you embed fax commands in the spool file, LAN/API looks for a parameter file or fax file. In this parameter file, you define the fax information like recipient and fax number. You also define the UNC path to the document you wish to fax. Once set up, FastFax monitors the folder you defined as the location where these parameter files live, delivers the document to fax, and processes them automatically.
LAN/API can be run in three different modes. 1.) Processor mode (recommended). You can define up to 3 UNC paths to be monitored for parameter files. 2.) Server mode. Runs on network file server and can only scan 1 path for parameter files. 3.) Client Executable. Runs on a PC and can only monitor one path for parameter file.

Can I copy a group of spool files from my iSeries to my PC for storage?

If you purchased eDocMail / E-Mail Gateway along with the PDF module, then you can email those spool files to yourself as PDF attachments.

How can I have FastFax installed on 2 partitions of my iSeries so I can share the fax lines?

Each partition of your iSeries is just like having another iSeries. You will first need a licensed copy of FastFax and a security code for that partition. You then install FastFax on that partition defining the environment number to be 002 or if you already have multiple environments, then use the next logical number, 003, 004 and so on. After you install, you just add an additional environment and users for that environment will be able to fax through your existing FastFax processor. Call your Quadrant Software salesperson to get more information and instructions.

How do I set up multiple recipients for my Extractor Templates?

From a command line type FFXCONFIG and [Enter]. Take Option #7 to work with Extractor templates. Take option #2 (Change) to change the template. In FastFax Extractor, tab over to the RCP menu option at the top and hit enter. A window will drop down and you will see 6 options. Choose option 2 to add recipients. Adding multiple recipients works the same way as the first recipient. You will be prompted to define the name and fax number from your spooled file or a database file. Once you define all your recipients, you can use other options under the RCP menu to show next or previous recipient. This function will adjust your screen and highlight that recipient’s selected spool file information and show you the data on the fax breaks.

Can I run a job that monitors a network folder and looks for a Word document for automatic delivery?

If you purchase Development Tools with FastFax, then you have LAN/API. This development tool monitors up to 3 paths and can automatically fax / email PC documents. FastFax will monitor these directories for a parameter file. From this parameter file, FastFax picks up recipient information, how to transmit (fax or e-mail), and the path where the PC document is on your network.

I need emailed spool files to be delivered as text attachments. How do I do this?

Using FastFax 4.5.1 and above, you can send email messages as .TXT attachments. If you’re using API, then there is a command, *ES, with a parameter of TXT (*ESTXT). This will also make the attachment a text file. You can also make this happen from the user menu if you’re using FastFax Extractor or a captured spooled file.

I have loaded a licensed copy of Microsoft Office onto the FastFax processor and I will be faxing MS Word and Excel documents. How do I set the registry key values for “Image Conversions Supported”?

The registry key is used to identify document types to be faxed. FastFax uses the Microsoft software to render the image before faxing to create a sharper image. The values would be entered in this manner: (DOC,TXT,XLS,PDF, etc).

I have FastFax/Enterprise along with several installed PC clients. From the PC client, I cannot see the iSeries *PUBLIC phonebook entries. All my recipient information is in the FastFax phonebooks and I need this to be available when faxing PC documents. Is there anyway this can be done?

FastFax synchronizes database information to all platforms (iSeries & file servers). Public phonebooks are the exception (personal and departmental books are synchronized, though). Public phonebooks are set up this way because public entries on the iSeries are not the same public entries on the network file servers in most cases. However, you can do a Remote Search on the iSeries, bring *PUBLIC entries over to the file server temporarily, and add recipients to your fax job. Depending on the number of public entries you have, I would recommend you add search criteria (company name, last name, first name or fax number) to reduce the number of records transferred and minimize the time it takes.

I have MS Word documents that I want attached to FastFax Extractor jobs, but I don’t want to convert them into a .TIF image and then enter them into the FastFax graphics table. I don’t want to repeatedy convert these documents and put them into FastFax every time we need to fax. Is there any other way?

Yes. Using FastFax 4.5 and above, you can attach PC documents by supplying the UNC path to the document. From a command line enter FFXCONFIG and [Enter] . Take option #7 to work with templates. Take Option #2 (Change) to change the template. In FastFax Extractor, access the DEFAULTS menu bar and choose option 4, Attachment Options. From this screen, you can enter up to 6 UNC paths to specify PC attachments. Press [Enter]. Press F3 to exit and [Enter] to save changes.

This will change the inbound status of the fax from *NEW to *OPEN allowing the FastFax purge to delete these records once it has become eligible to purge.
Then on the value for Forward to email setup with *YES and supply the email address where we will be routing the inbound fax to –

From your FastFax Client:
Choose FastFax Administration from your FastFax Client
Choose Inbound Routing Table
At the top choose Edit and then New Table Entry
Setup the routing entry for inbound fax to be received making sure that on the tab for Routing Info 1 you have selected to receive fax into open status and on the tab for Routing Info 1 you add the email address or user profile that the inbound fax will be routed to.

Is FastFax And Formtastic are both compatible with the IBM OS V5R4M0?

FastFax And Formtastic are both compatible with the IBM OS/V5R4M0
The only requirement that you will need to ensure is that you are loading the group PTF SF99504 as part of your operating system update.

I have DID lines to receive inbound faxes and when I dial them I hear a busy signal?

A test that we recommend to determine if you are having an issue with the DID card or the DID line is:
Find a manual fax machine and plug the DID card directly into the fax machine –
Fax something from the manual fax machine directly to the DID card by sending to your 4 digit numbers (or whatever your DID digits are)
If the DID cards are working properly you will see the C++ driver manager window appear on the FastFax processor that shows us receiving the fax. You should also see the fax from WRKFAXJOB in your inbound screen. If you see these things occur than the problem is with the phone line not the DID card.

Why is Quadrant Software replacing my existing Email Gateway which works fine?

There are several reasons, firstly, the existing Email gateway for Lotus Notes no longer functions for Lotus Notes versions later than version 8.0.2 due to Lotus support of the API beyond 8.0.2. Therefore Quadrant recommends customers with Lotus Notes version later than 8.0.2 to replace their gateway with QuadraConnect™. Secondly, QuadraConnect is based on industry standard protocol –SMTP.  Regardless of what version of Domino or Exchange or GenericMail,   utilizing SMTP protocol allows QuadraConnect™  to be independent of Corporate email version migration therefore reducing your management  efforts.

I have my user profiles setup to receive messages when their faxes go into error status but they are continuing to get these messages over and over again – how can I stop this?

We have a scan time option that is configured that rescans the outbound faxq for errors and will resend the error messages to the users until the faxes or emails are either deleted or the error condition is resolved and they are resent.
To turn this off you can type FFXMAIN and take option 5 for Configuration menu – take option 1 for system environment defaults –
Take a 2 on General Defaults and look for:
Scan time for outbound error messages…
change this value to 999 and we will not scan

Are there any functions/features that are eliminated by replacing my existing gateway with QuadraConnectâ„¢? For example does the Outlook Address Book integration still function? Are any new functions added?

In all cases, there is no loss or no addition of features by replacing any of the “old” gateways. This includes the FastFax Address button used with Lotus Notes.

I am getting a message in my QSYSOPR message q FASTFAX ERROR: FFXP001 has been changed to an ERROR status. Reply . . . When I look at the status of FFXP001 in the WRKFAXPRC screen it is activeWhat is causing this and how can I prevent it?

From an As/400 command line type FFXTOOLS
Take an f8 option to confirm the FastFax library –
On the selection line type 21 – hit enter and then choose f10
This will display the DTAFXS dtaara values –
In the last column halfway down the screen look for the value FXSLET and change the value from a 2 to a 9
Hit enter – then f8 to confirm – enter will bring you back the to FFXTOOLS menu and then f12 will bring you back out to command line.

This value tells the as/400 to ping to the FastFax processor and wait 2 seconds for a reply – if the AS/400 is busy with other processes and doesn’t have a chance to respond in this 2 second interval we will assume that we are no longer communicating with the system and put that message out in qsysopr message Q. Changing the value to a 9 increases this interval to 9 seconds which will allow for busy processing times on the systems.

What are the advantages of QuadraConnector over any of the Legacy Email Gateway’s previously sold by Quadrant Software?

QuadraConnector utilizes the SMTP capabilities of the customer’s mail server, or SAP server, or any messaging system that has SMTP capabilities.  QuadraConnector transforms rfc-compliant SMTP messages into QuadraDocV messages – this removes any reliance or dependencies on any particular brand of mail server, as long as the mail server or ERP server produces rfc-compliant SMTP.

What files are installed on the exchange server when the FastFAx Exchange Gateway is loaded?

We load .exe and .dll type files all starting with ffx.
We have several .dll type files ffxipm0*.dll and the ffxipm1*.dll in the C:Winntsystem32 folder.

Are there any differences in using QuadraConnector versus using one of the Quadrant legacy gateways?

The mail addresses need to be SMTP compliant, so in some cases the format of the email address has changed.

For example:

In the legacy NOTES Gateway, the format of a mail message was <NAME>@<FAX#>@FASTFAX.  The smtp compliant mail address is now <NAME>@<FAX#>.fastfax.com.

In both the legacy EXCHANGE gateway and the legacy SMTP gateway, the format of a mail message was <NAME>@<FAX#>.fastfax. The smtp compliant mail address is now <NAME>@<FAX#>.fastfax.com.

How do I stop the line information from printing on the top of all of my outbound faxes?

The information that is printed on the top line of the outbound fax is called the TSI (Transmitting Subscriber Identification)
This information comes from the line configuration in the FastFax systems. To turn this off or change the information from the FFXMAIN menu take option 5 for Configuration Menu.
Then from this menu take option 3 to work with FastFax lines. Take the line offline with an option 12 – once offline take a 2 to change and look for the value of FastFax identification stamp………… The value that is contained here is the TSI information that is being printed at the top of the line – along with the time of send and FastFax ID #.

How is FastFax configured to use QuadraConnector?

FastFax configuration is similar to the SMTP gateway configuration. Configuring FastFax for multiple email servers is simplified with QuadraConnector because one QuadraConnector gateway install and configuration handles multiple email servers.  With the Domino, SMTP and Exchange Gateways each gateway is configured separately in FastFax.

I need to put my FastFax processor offline as part of my ISeries shutdown and startup procedure – This is an automated procedure how can I do this?

Why are the API spool files are not moving out of the FFXOTQAPI out queue?

At the iSeries command line, execute WRKJOBQ JOBQ(FFXAPIJOBQ) and make sure the job queue is in a release status (RLS). If held (HLD), execute the command RLSJOBQ JOBQ(FFXAPIJOBQ). Look at the FFXOTQAPI out queue to confirm the spoolfiles are moving out. In the event the FFXAPIJOBQ is already in a release status, follow the existing steps that are already on the FAQ website.

I have API faxes set to print a copy after it is sent using the *PC, *OQ and the *QL commands but does not print. The out queue and library settings within API commands matches with a valid out queue on the iSeries.

On the iSeries command line execute the command FFXTOOLS, then F8, select Opt 21 Work with DTAFXS, FastFax defaults and overrides,

Go the FFXMAIN menu option 2. Work with FastFax profiles and take a ‘2’ to change the profile for ‘ABC Tester’. Take a ‘2’ General Defaults, then increase accordingly the “Maximum pages profile can transmit.”

How many database links (dblinks) can you have active?

We only allow 9 dblinks to be active.

The reason for this is because we create 2 logical files for every active link. If we allowed them to activate more than this things may get out of control.

I am getting LOGON FAILURE ERROR -1069 ON GATEWAY SERVICE when my FastFax Gateway attempts to start.

Need to make FFXSYS schema and domain admin. Once this is done, the service would start as FFXSYS.

If you have another user setup as the user to start the service the above must be setup for that user as well.

My FastFax processor is rebooting and I cannot see anything wrong when it does start back again – how do I troubleshoot this?

If there are no error messages appearing in the MainProcess window you will probably need to forward over a log file to the Support Group for analysis.

If you open windows explorer on the FastFax processor and navigate to C:FASTFAXFFXLOGS folder – the file to send to us is P001_1.log file – please email to Support@QuadrantSoftware.com

What authority does the FFXSYS user require?

Default:

*SAVSYS
*SPLCTL
*JOBCLT

These are our default settings –
We would need additional authority if we needed to access any particular files due to DBLINK setup or authority to any objects that have *PUBLIC *EXCLUDE.

I am getting the error MCH1210: Receiver value to small to hold result on an automerge and the spoolfile is not being processed.

The problem is that the file number of the spooled file is over 4 digits – we only support file numbers up to 9999 in release 5.2 and below.

To fix this problem you should update to the latest FastFax release or end and start the job that is creating the spoolfiles and this should start the numbering back to a 4 digit value.

V5R2 VODs do not support the Load and Run (LODRUN) command

http://www.itjungle.com/tfh/tfh031003-story04.html

We load or update + installs with the LODRUN command so unfortunately, the VOD (Virtual Optical Device) is not supported.

I get an error when I run my backups CPF4128. How do I end and restart FastFax for my backups?

The error message is caused by another job having a lock on the FastFax library. You need to do two things. 1.) End the FastFax subsystem. We have a command you can put in your program, ENDFFX, that ends the subsystem, and STRFFX to start it back up again. 2.) The FastFax processor also has locks on the FastFax library. Power down the FastFax processor by taking option 12 from the Work with FastFax Processor’s screen and select POWERDOWN CNTRLD. You can also automate this by calling one of our programs FFX809CL. This program works with the processor and lines. To use this program refer to source file FFXINFO in library FASTFAX, then look at member FFX809CL. This will tell you what parameters to load and we also supply code you can copy into your program.

How do I purge faxes in an error (ERR) status?

For faxes to be purged, they must be either in an ‘SNT’ or ‘DLT’ status. You need to take an option 4 on the errored faxes for them to transition to a deleted (DLT) status. Also, they will need to be in a ‘DLT’ status for 24 hours before the purge function will actually purge them.

When I started the subsystem, the purge started running. How can I end the purge so that faxes can be delivered?

You will need to do an ENDFFX at a command line to end the subsystem. Once the subsystem has ended type FFXTOOLS at a command line and do an F8 (if you get a warning). At a command line, type the following: CHGDTAARA DTAARA(FASTFAX/DTAFXS (78 1)) VALUE(‘0’) -and hit enter. You can then start the subsystem using the STRFFX command at a command line. The subsystem should start and the purge should not run.

How do I clean up the FFXTRC file? It is extremely large and I do not know how to purge it.

You will need to end the FastFax subsystem by typing ENDFFX at a command line. Afterwards, type FFXTOOLS and hit F8 at the warning. Take option 2 to clear the trace file. Also, take option 21 to work with the DTAFXS data area. Do an F10. In the second column, second entry there is a field FXSSW3 – if there is a 1 here go ahead and blank it out. Hit F8 and then exit with F3. Clearing this field will eliminate unneeded entries in the FFXTRC file. You can go ahead and start the subsystem back up by typing the STRFFX command at the command line.

What outbound faxes does the purge clean up?

The purge will look at all faxes in a DLT and SNT status, then it looks at the save copy.

If the save copy has passed the fax, it will get purged.

It will not purge any faxes in RDY, HLD or ERR status.

What type of inbound faxes does the purge clean?

The purge will look at all faxes in a OPN and DLT status. Then it looks at the save copy. If the save copy has passed the fax will get purged. It will not purge any faxes in NEW or ERR status.

Faxes in ERR status are not being purged off the system.

FastFax does not purge faxes that are in ERR status. Faxes have to be set to DLT status to be eligible for purging.

Faxes are not being purged from the iSeries. How can I determine if the purge is set up on the iSeries?

Go to FFXMAIN, option 5 Configuration, option 1 System Environment Defaults. 2 on iSeries environment, page down one page. Value for Auto Purge eligible data/files/memos. This is the value for the iSeries purge.

How can I determine how long a fax is saved?

On the Work with Outbound Faxes screen put a 5 on the fax. It will tell you how many days the fax will be saved before being eligible to get purged. Save Copy (Left side of display screen 7 from the bottom).
