Quadrant Software Releases Whitepaper and Launches Campaign to Aid Health Care Industry with HIPAA Regulations

Company Releases Comprehensive White Paper as First Step.

TAUNTON, MA (September 2, 2003) -- With government deadlines looming over the health care industry, Quadrant Software has launched an initiative to help health care companies and related industries address stringent new requirements on the electronic transmission of patient health information (PHI).

These far-reaching regulations come as a result of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which seeks to secure, streamline, and standardize the delivery and availability of PHI for covered entities including primarily health care providers, clearinghouses, and health plans. HIPAA compliance is mandatory for all covered entities.

"HIPAA places very strict controls on many aspects of document management including document creation, fax delivery, hard copy disposal, secure storage of patient information (digital and hard copy), and much more," says Gary Langton, President of Quadrant Software. "Meeting these requirements could cost the health care industry hundreds of thousands of dollars. Quadrant Software is in a position to help these companies turn a potentially huge expense into extremely significant cost savings."

Quadrant Software's suite of Electronic Document Distribution (EDD) solutions for the integrated iSeries 400 environment provide seamlessly integrated electronic forms, incoming and outgoing fax, and email client solutions, allowing covered entities to implement EDD with minimal installation, training, and integration headaches.

Of particular interest to companies falling under HIPAA regulations, Quadrant Software's security architecture allows system administrators to block, allow, and track access to PHI on a user-by-user basis. These security profiles are updated using centrally managed user profiles. This means that a single security update on any hardware platform automatically updates security measures on all connected platforms.

Quadrant Software's EDD solutions also greatly reduce the expense of hard copy storage, disposal, and eliminates the overall expense of pre-printed forms, because PHI never needs to be physically printed to be reviewed, delivered, or received. PHI is delivered computer to computer or computer to fax machine automatically to greatly reduce the amount of PHI existing as unsecured hardcopy.

Quadrant Software's new whitepaper, "Using Electronic Document Delivery Technology To Enhance HIPAA Compliancy" takes closer look at HIPAA specifically in relation to tackling compliance, expense, and implementation issues surrounding document management. This whitepaper is available for free from Quadrant Software at: http://www.quadrantsoftware.com/solution/hipaa.htm

Also, Quadrant Software will provide any HIPAA covered entity with a free evaluation of their currently document distribution system and their potential cost and work savings using EDD.
