Form Design Made Simple

With Formatter, form design is easy. The solution features an intuitive, dual-screen, Windows-based GUI designer that presents your original spool file in one window (the input window) and displays a new document template in a second window (the output window). Blocks of data from the input window are mapped to a new form template in the output window – enabling you to easily create a clean, concise and highly readable document.

Formatter’s form design process makes it simple to reduce or eliminate unnecessary headers and footers, condense multiple detail lines into single lines, combine secondary detail lines, and arrange for summaries to print only on the last pages of your documents. In essence, Formatter enables you to design customized, professional forms without the hassle, cost and complexity of RPG programming.

Formatter’s PC-based dual-window display provides an interactive view of original spool file data and the reformatted output data.

The Input View Enables Users to:

  • Identify and define the different sections (header, footer and body) and detail fields of a form.
  • Define the fields within the header and footer sections and within each body detail line.
  • Define conditions that identify a detail line including the requirement to ignore blank lines.

The Output View Enables Users to:

  • Manipulate the detail fields identified during the input step.
  • View a reformatted form in a standard tree structure. (Note: Individual sections within each page layout can be reused on other page layouts.)
  • Drag-and-drop mapped fields from the input view tree structure to the output view window to create new header and footer sections and body detail lines.
  • Reformat line spacing and repeat or restrict the appearance of headers, footers, and body on a page-by-page basis.
